Learn To Read Hebrew From Zero and Basic For Beginners - Chapter 1 - The Consonants Aleph א and Beth ב

The Consonants Aleph א And Beth ב

א “Aleph”, is the first consonant in Hebrew language. This consonant does not have voice at all. So don’t pronounce this consonant with “a” in English because it is totally different.

ב “Beth”, is the second consonant in Hebrew language. This consonant is pronounced with two ways, that is:
    - Pronounced with “b” in case of “Dagesh (dot)” is in the midst of it. It is pronounced exactly just like in the word “Buy”. For example:
    בּ b
    - Pronounced with “v” ” in case of “Dagesh (dot)” is not in the midst of it. It is pronounced exactly just like in the word “van”. For example:
    ב v

The Vowels Qamatz אַ and Patakh אָ

אַ “Qamatz”, this vowel is pronounced with “a” just like in the word “run”. For example:
אַ a
בַּ ba
בַ va
בַּא ba
אַב av

אָ This vowel is also pronounced with “a”. The only difference with the vowel אַ is in the ancient times, the vowel אָ was pronounced longer than the vowel אַ. However, for its usage now, there is no really difference between these two. Both of them are pronounced with “a”. For example:
אָ a
בָּ ba
בָ va
בָּא ba
אָבָא ava
